pet of the week

Pet of the Week

Frankie is an extremely sweet and affectionate 16-week-old kitten. His mom and litter mates were rescued from Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter when the kittens were just days old. The feline family has been well cared for and loved in a private foster home. Frankie loves other cats, friendly dogs and children. He is neutered, micro chipped, tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, appropriately vaccinated and treated for parasites. Frankie will be adopted to be an inside only cat. .......

What We Do

Please join our mission to make ours a “No Kill” community; it will take an army of volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include:
Rescue/Foster: The Hart County Humane Society is working with Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter to end the need to euthanize healthy animals due to lack of space or time. We can only save these animals if a foster home or foster buddy is available. Foster families take a shelter dog, cat or kittens into their home and provide love and socialization while our supporters provide for its care.
Foster buddies: share shifts caring for a few shelter dogs kept in a safe kennel building donated by Dr. Robert Mauldin. Though kennel dogs are not in homes they are safe and provided necessary care. These dogs need buddies to walk, feed, clean up and help get them to adoption events.
.Fundraising, raising awareness and volunteering: The “All Hart County Humane Society Outreach Center” located at 95 W. Franklin St. is used for adoption, fundraising and awareness events. We are pet partners with Anderson PetSmart, we keep cats in the cat room and take dogs there for adoption opportunities. Fundraising, volunteering and rescuing are crucial to our programs. Please join our army.

Who Are We?

The Hart County Humane Society is an all-volunteer, non-profit, animal rescue organization. We raise awareness to the plight of unwanted and stray animals entering Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter, our community’s open intake shelter. We are passionately working every day to end the euthanizing of adoptable shelter pets by providing low cost spay/neuter programs to Hart County residents and by rescuing animals from this shelter that do not get adopted or rescued by other organizations.

Who We Are Not !

We are not a shelter facility with a location or hired staff. We are not animal control; we have no legal jurisdiction or training to pick up stray animals. We receive no funding from any government agencies. Animal Control is available by calling your local law enforcement agency. In the city of Hartwell, call Hartwell Police Department (706-376-3111) for stray or nuisance dogs or cats. In Hart County call the Hart County Sheriff’s Department (706-3763114) for stray or nuisance dogs. If you have a pet you no longer want or are able to keep, please take it to Northeast GA Animal Shelter, 870 Bear Creek Rd. Lavonia GA. 30553 706-356-5363.
